Book Deal for 1930s Thriller

I’m happy to announce that I’ve signed a three-book deal with US publisher Level Best Books for my new thriller series. In 1935, a disgraced British army officer is recruited by MI5 to penetrate the British Union of Fascists. A twist of fate turns him into an unwitting hero of the movement, trapping him in a role he cannot easily escape. He has to befriend people he must ultimately betray and avoid his real mission being uncovered amid the dangers of the street battles between left and right. The first book will be published in March 2022 under the Historia Imprint, and sequels will follow the characters through the mounting tensions of the later 1930s.

Founded by the ‘Dames of Detection’, Level Best has a growing stable of crime writers from both sides of the Atlantic and beyond.  I’ve already attended two of their Zoom get-togethers with 40 or so of their authors and enjoyed joining this collaborative and supportive community. Two fellow members of the Crime Writers’ Association, David Stuart Davies and Matthew Booth, are also recent signings.

In future blogs I’ll talk more about the 1930s and the themes explored in the series. The book title will be announced once we are into the editing process, but for now we can give it the codename ‘BM’. I’m already working on the sequel set in 1936, codename ‘BC’. I’ve actually been sitting on the news for a couple of months as I’ve had a busy social media schedule, so it’s great to be able go public at last.

Level Best were featured in the January 2021 edition of the Crime Reader’s Association Newsletter.
